When each votes

Most states vote on the same day as the general election. Others hold their own election when their assembly is dissolved early.

Good to know

1When both are held on the same day, you get two ballot papers: one for your MP and one for your ADUN.
2Each parliamentary seat is made up of several state seats, so your MP and your ADUN can be from different parties.
3Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan are federal territories: they have MPs but no state assembly, so there is no state election there.
4Malaysians aged 18 and above are registered as voters automatically; you can check where you vote with the Election Commission (SPR, MySPR Semak).
